In 1990 David and Sugar Hunkins started Kihei Rent A Car Inc. with 20 Chevy Sprints and a hand shake. All of their car renters where staying in South Maui, mainly Kihei. As the years passed, renters asked David if he could pick them up at the airport when they came back the next year. With airport shuttle service came customers who stayed outside of the Kihei-Wailea area.

With the help of the internet more and more people discovered Kihei Rent A Car. In the last few years many of our renters stayed in west Maui. Now, with the destruction of Lahaina by wildfires on August 8th, we are back to servicing mainly south Maui customers. The volume of our local business is up due to so many folks losing their cars in the fires. There are less Maui visitors as the west side of the island begins the long road to recovery.

Now, in the fall of 2023, Kihei Rent A Car has come full circle. 99% of our renters live or are staying in the Kihei area.
