A common question we hear at Kihei Rent A Car is, “Where is the best hiking on Maui?”
Well, it’s all good! Really, Maui has so many different kinds of hikes due to the many different climates found on the island. Looking at the map below, the hikes on the north side of the island are in wet, humid climates and the southern hikes are very dry and hot. The Waihee Ridge Trail is on the north shore but it can be hot and dry in that specific area. It’s also uphill the whole way in and downhill on the way out. If you click on the link under the map there is detailed descriptions of all the hikes.
Remember to leave all of your valuables at home in your condo or hotel. Definitely don’t leave a camera or purse on the seat of your rental car. Some hiking spots are known to have cars broken into regularly. So, if there’s nothing to take from your car, you’re fine. However, if it’s locked your window could be broken. Leaving your car unlocked in another option. Just be aware that cars do get broken into sometimes. Bummer, but true.
You might consider going on a guided hike in the beginning of your Maui vacation. That way you can “pick the brains” of your guide about future hikes to take on your own. They really are professional and understand the ever changing conditions of the island trails. See below for information about our favorite guided hiking company.
Of course there are all kinds of safety issues when hiking anywhere. Please be cautious and prepared.
We’d love to hear about your favorite Maui hikes. Share your experiences with us on social media: https://www.facebook.com/KiheiRentACar/?ref=br_rs
