This joyful, family-friendly event honors the beloved Kumu Hula Phyllis Ross, a lifelong devotee of hula whose journey began as a child under the mentorship of the legendary Aunty Emma. With grace, humility, and aloha, she continues to inspire generations through her dance and teachings.
Friday, August 22, begins with a poignant tribute to Phyllis Ross around 11:15 a.m., followed by a captivating opening performance by Carmen Hulu Lindsey Falsetto Champion Leimana Purdy, and an evening concert by award-winning vocalist Natalie A‘i Kamauʻu at The Branches.
Saturday, August 23, transforms into a full day of hālau hula performances—from revered local schools like Nā Pua O Kapi‘olani and Pukalani Hula Hale to a special appearance by Hālau Ka Pā Hula ʻO Kawaiolanoelaniokāne from Reno, blending ʻauana and kahiko styles in a beautiful tapestry of cultural expression.
Workshops offer more than mere instruction—they deepen your connection to Maui’s living traditions. Try your hand at the Pūpū Weuweu stewardship talk, strum along in an ʻukulele workshop, or dance with Kumu Hula Cody Pueo Pata in her intermediate hula class.
