As whale season kicks off, it’s important to follow the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) guidelines for safe whale watching. These include maintaining a distance of at least 100 yards from the whales, reducing boat speed when whales are present, and limiting time observing them to 30 minutes, especially when calves are involved. These measures ensure that the Maui waters remain a safe environment for the humpbacks to breed and raise their young.
With the first whale already spotted, Maui is ready to welcome its annual visitors from the sea.

You can never go on too many whale watches! Maalaea Harbor, where most of the boats are located, is a quick 15 minute drive from the Kihei Rent A Car area. Don’t miss the whales this season!
