Maui Honu; at Home on the Island.

September 30, 2019
Honu love swimming in Maui waters…
and chillin’ on the beach too!

Everyone loves giant sea turtles. Just remember to give them their space. That way they will be around the islands for a long long time.

TOP 10 PLACES TO SEE HONU ON MAUI

  1. Turtle Town Maui is the long stretch of coastline in between Nahuna Point and Black Sand Beach in the southern district of Makena. Although a large area, generally, most people who say ‘Turtle Town‘ are specifically referring to Maluaka Beach.
  2. Ho‘okipa is a beach on the north shore of Maui, perhaps the most renowned windsurfing site in the world. A combination of large, well-shaped waves breaking across a system of reefs that extend across the bay and consistently strong winds make it ideal for the sport.
  3. Ulua Beach fronts the Wailea Elua Village condos and is popular with dive instructors, as there is a good beginner level dive at the outer reef. Beach parking, shared with Mokapu Beach, can also fill up early. If the lot is full, you can park at the south lot for Keawakapu Beach and take a quarter-mile stroll across Mokapu Beach as all three of these beaches connect.
  4. Black Rock is at the north end of Ka’anapali Beach, a great place to cliff-jump and snorkel.
  5. Polo Beach in Wailea is a lovely crescent of white sand fronting the massive Fairmont Kea Lani Resort with beautiful views of Molokini and Kaho’olawe.
  6. Maui Ocean Center features both a top and underwater view of Hawaii’s beloved honu (turtles). Native to Hawaii, the green sea turtle is the largest hard-shelled sea turtle in the world, reaching lengths of four feet and weights over 300 pounds. Up to six sea turtles on display at all times.
  7. Kaelekii Point (Southwest Side Of Napili Bay)
  8. Five Caves is located on the southwest coast of Maui. If you are heading South to get there, a good route is South Kihei Rd to Wailea Alanui Dr. Once on Wailea Alanui Dr you will take Makena Rd when you get to the Makena Surf Condos.
  9. Maalaea Bay is a quiet village situated away from busy tourist areas. A natural reef with the sounds of the ocean waves crashing runs along the five mile stretch of white sandy beach that goes all the way to Kihei.
  10. Located on Maui’s northwestern coast just five minutes past Kapalua, Honolua Bay is one of the island’s most loved and legendary spots.
