This August 8, 2025 marks the second anniversary of the devastating 2023 wildfires paddle out with Kuhinia Maui, a heartfelt series of memorial gatherings to honor the 102 lives lost and the two still unaccounted for. The day begins with a Morning Paddle Out (7:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m.) at Hanaka‘ō‘ō Beach Park in West Maui—a time for reflection, prayers, and music as participants launch into the sea, with spectators encouraged to watch from shore.
Next, from noon to 1:30 p.m., a gathering at Kalana O Maui in Wailuku invites the community to share moments of unity and remembrance—reservations are requested. Later, an Evening Memorial Tribute unfolds at the Lahaina Civic Center Amphitheater from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m., offering a dignified space for collective healing and honoring resilience.
Volunteers are warmly welcomed, and the organizers invite donations of de‑branched flowers, petals, and small leaves (no stringed leis) for the paddle-out scattering. These can be dropped off between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, in front of Kalana O Maui at 200 S. High St., Wailuku.
At Kihei Rent A Car, we’re honored to support Maui’s spirit of resilience. If you’re visiting the island this week, let us help you travel safely—whether you’re heading to West Maui for the paddle out, visiting Wailuku, or just getting around to soak in the island’s beauty and healing by the sea.
Let’s move forward together, with aloha and remembrance.
