September on Maui: Celebrate the Spirit of Aloha

August 24, 2026

September is a wonderful time to experience a different side of Maui. Along with beautiful beaches and scenic drives, the island comes alive with music, culture, local food and community celebrations through Festivals of Aloha.

This September, three events on Maui offer visitors opportunities to experience the spirit of aloha while supporting local communities.

Friday, September 4th:  Wailuku First Friday

Start the month in historic Wailuku Town as Market Street comes alive with local music, ʻono food, artisan vendors, shopping and family-friendly fun.

Wailuku First Friday celebrates Maui’s small businesses and creative community while giving visitors a chance to explore one of Central Maui’s historic neighborhoods.

Friday, September 11th:  Aloha Friday at Queen Kaʻahumanu Center

The celebration continues in Kahului with Hawaiian entertainment, local vendors, cultural demonstrations, island cuisine and activities for the ʻohana.

It’s an easy way for visitors to experience Hawaiian music and culture in a relaxed community setting.

Saturday, September 19th: Richard Hoʻopiʻi Leo Kiʻekiʻe Hawaiian Falsetto Contest

The month concludes with the 24th Annual Richard Hoʻopiʻi Leo Kiʻekiʻe Hawaiian Falsetto Contest, celebrating one of Hawaiʻi’s treasured musical traditions.

Named in honor of renowned Hawaiian musician Richard Hoʻopiʻi, the event showcases the distinctive falsetto singing style that has deep roots in Hawaiian music.

For visitors, Festivals of Aloha offers something that goes beyond the typical Maui vacation experience. These celebrations provide opportunities to hear Hawaiian music, discover local artisans, taste island food and connect with the communities that make Maui special.

And with a rental car, you can easily make your own Maui adventure around these events. Spend the morning at the beach, explore Central Maui in the afternoon, then head into town for an evening of music and aloha.

At Kihei Rent A Car, we love helping visitors discover more than the beaches. Maui’s culture, people and communities are part of what makes the island unforgettable.

This September, take some time to experience the spirit of aloha.
