There’s something quietly powerful about a tree. No engines, no noise… just steady, patient healing. And at Lahaina Harbor, that healing is taking root in the most beautiful way.
Recently, Treecovery Hawai‘i partnered with community groups and volunteers to plant nearly a dozen native trees, including endemic loulu palms, right in the heart of Lahaina. These aren’t just any trees. Loulu palms are truly Hawaiian, grown from seeds collected on Moloka‘i and carefully nurtured for nearly 20 years before finding their new home.
After the devastation of the 2023 wildfires, Lahaina lost not only buildings but also much of its living landscape. Now, these plantings are helping restore shade, beauty, and a deep cultural connection to the land. Native species like kukui, sandalwood, and ‘ae‘ae are also being reintroduced, transforming the harbor into a place that reflects Hawai‘i’s natural heritage once again.

Even better, this isn’t just about today. Treecovery continues to support long-term recovery through grow hubs across Maui, with thousands of trees already planted island-wide.

For visitors exploring Maui, it’s a reminder that every drive holds a story of resilience. And when you visit Lahaina, you’re not just seeing recovery… you’re witnessing new life rising, one leaf at a time.
