If you’ve been watching the weather and wondering whether to keep your Maui plans, you’re not alone. We’ve been hearing from many visitors this week who are feeling unsure after the recent Kona storms. It’s completely understandable—but here on the ground, things are already settling back into their usual rhythm.
The storms brought some intense rain and flooding in certain areas, mostly in low spots and along a few roadways. Like most Kona storms, it moved through, made a splash, and then… moved on. South Maui, including Kihei and Wailea, has bounced back quickly, with businesses open and beaches returning to normal.
If anything, this is when the island feels especially alive. The hills turn a deeper green, waterfalls show up where there were none before, and the air feels freshly washed. It’s a different kind of beauty—quieter, softer, and surprisingly peaceful.
The main thing visitors may want is a little flexibility. Being able to explore different areas, follow the sunshine, or change plans on the fly makes a big difference. Maui is full of microclimates, and one side of the island can feel like a completely different day than the other.
Most importantly, Maui is still here, still welcoming, and still very much worth the trip.

At Kihei Rent A Car, we’re always here to share what’s really happening locally and help you enjoy your time on island with confidence.
