Maui is known for its breathtaking beaches, vibrant culture, and deep sense of aloha. But like many island communities, it also faces a challenge that often goes unseen: cat overpopulation. A new partnership between the Aloha FurEver Pets Foundation and Good Cat Network is working to change that, bringing fresh energy and collaboration to protect Maui’s cats.
Both organizations share a mission of reducing the number of homeless and vulnerable cats through humane solutions such as spay and neuter clinics, responsible rescue practices, and community education. By joining forces, they aim to strengthen Maui’s rescue network and expand access to critical veterinary services for local communities.
Good Cat Network, founded in 2021, has already helped more than 1,000 cats find new homes through its “Operation Aloha Cat” program, which safely transfers adoptable cats to partner shelters on the mainland. The organization also runs “Have A Nice Spay,” a monthly no-cost spay and neuter clinic designed to slow the cycle of overpopulation before it begins.
Through this partnership, the two nonprofits will coordinate clinics, share volunteers and resources, and expand public education around responsible pet care. The goal is simple but powerful: healthier animals, fewer homeless cats, and a more balanced ecosystem for Maui.
At Kihei Rent A Car, caring for Maui’s animals is personal to us. For more than 30 years, we have lovingly cared for our own small cat colony. What began with 35 cats has gradually and naturally grown smaller through the years, and today eight beloved cats remain. Through daily feeding, care, and plenty of affection, these cats have become part of our extended Kihei Rent A Car family, reminding us that even small acts of kindness can make a lasting difference.
